PERMITTING AND DESIGN OF

A HAZARDOUS WASTE REMEDIATION LANDFILL

Phoenix and AM Environmental teamed to register and design a source reduction landfill for pesticide residues and contaminated soils at a former chemical plant under the State’s Voluntary Cleanup Program. The landfill was designed to satisfy the requirements for a Class 1 landfill using the hazardous waste requirements as guidance. The landfill had an airspace of 30,000 CY and is within the coastal floodplain of Galveston Bay.

PERMITTING, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION QUALITY ASSURANCE

FOR COMMERCIAL HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL

Phoenix assisted in the permitting of this grass-roots, commercial, hazardous waste facility which was accomplished in a mere 18 months. Upon receiving a permit, Phoenix Environmental lead a five engineering firm team in designing and constructing a 600,000 cubic yard commercial hazardous waste landfill. This is the twentieth commercial HW landfill in the US.

PERMIT APPLICATION AND DESIGN OF

REGIONAL COMMERCIAL HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL

Phoenix managed a five firm detailed engineering team that designed a new regional, commercial hazardous waste landfill. The facility included a five cell (totaling 11,000,000 CY) double-composite lined, commercial landfill at an eastern Mississippi site. The landfill was associated with a new hazardous waste incinerator.

PERMITTING, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION INSPECTION

OF A HAZARDOUS WASTE LANDFILL

Phoenix prepared a closure plan and construction design package for converting a wood preserving waste surface impoundment into a landfill. The 8,000+ CY landfill included a 3-ft compacted clay liner, a leachate collection system, a gas collection system, a 3-ft compacted clay cap and a cap integrity monitoring system. The wastes were stabilized and compacted so the landfilled area was a structurally sound subgrade. The landfill surface was paved with asphalt for the Owner’s use as a storage area.
